Ben Standig is a host, writer and co-founder of The Sports Capitol. The D.C. area native grew up rooting for all the local squads and dabbled in the professional media world after college before making a full shift to sports writing in 2005.

Ben has since covered every team and big event in town for several outlets including The Associated Press, NBCWashington.com and Scout.com. That has meant witnessing plenty of heartbreak. From the Wizards getting knocked out of the playoffs in three of the last four years, to watching clubhouse attendants at Nats Park move postgame bubbly from the home to visiting clubhouse after Game 5 in 2012.
Ben also remembers those three Redskins Super Bowl wins with three different quarterbacks, which is why he argues Joe Gibbs is the greatest NFL coach ever. Memories of Georgetown and Maryland cutting down the nets remain fresh, along with that Bullets/Wizards hope that came from Moses Malone, Chris and Juwan, Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler.

Ben heads The Sports Capitol’s Wizards and Redskins coverage, while also keeping tabs on the college basketball scene and helping out on the Nationals.
