Amy Hunter has made several stops on her career — Boston, New York City, Los
Angeles, Knoxville and Fort Myers, Fla. — but when she moved to Washington D.C.,
she was truly coming home. Hunter grew up outside the District in Columbia, Md.

Hunter’s career began as a researcher in the D.C. bureau of The London Times. Her
time there coincided with the 2004 presidential election, America’s invasion of
Iraq and the gubernatorial election of Arnold Swarzenegger, which the Brits’ joked
might not be great for California, but sure as hell sold newspapers.

After working alongside some of Britain’s premier journalists, Hunter decided she
wanted to become one. She moved to New York City where she earned her M.S. at
Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Hunter has written for a variety of newspapers, magazines and websites, including
the Bristol Herald Courier — winner of the 2010 Pulitzer prize for public
service, The Fort Myers News-Press, The Naples Daily News, The Bronx Beat and
several south Florida magazines, including Gulfshore Life and Gulfshore Business.
Her web experience includes work at Fox 4 News in south Florida and ABC Channel 5
in Boston.

Hunter has won a variety of awards during her career, including 1st place
recognition from the Virginia Press Association and the Society of Professional
Journalists, among others.

She began editing, writing and reporting for WTOP in June, 2011.

Hunter has a B.S. in broadcast journalism from Boston University.
