WASHINGTON — Dogs, cats, birds, pigs, reptiles and exotic pets are all a part of this year’s Super Pet Expo in Chantilly, Virginia.
Whether you’re considering a new companion animal or just want to check out activities and gear for one already with you, the event will include agility demonstrations by cats and pigs, and long-distance dog dock diving.
“There’s all kinds of different activities, some of which if you happen to bring your pet, you can join in on,” said Veterinary Behaviorist Dr. Leslie Sinn, who is attending the expo.
The three-day event begins today, March 16, and features lots of different vendors, associations, rescue groups and pets available for adoption. A Loudoun County shelter is among the groups bringing adoptable pets.
“Friends of Homeless Animals is a strict ‘No Kill’ shelter that has been in existence for 45 years and has saved over 15,000 dogs and cats,” volunteer Debora Lange said of the Loudoun County-based group.
You also have a chance to learn something at the expo.
Dr. Sinn is on an “Ask The Expert Panel” on Saturday at 2 p.m. Questions will be taken from the audience and from social media. At 4 p.m. Dr. Sinn is addressing “Behavior Myths That Effect You And Your Cat.”
One quick tip from the pet expert: “Do everything you can to reward positive behavior, and ignore behavior you don’t want. And avoid punishment if at all possible because it can increase fear,” Sinn advised.
