Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer tosses second no-hitter

WASHINGTON– Max Scherzer ended his season in style Saturday tossing his second no-hitter in a 2-0 win against the New York Mets at Citi Field.

Scherzer also no-hit the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 19 in Washington. On Saturday, Scherzer retired the first 15 Mets he faced, before Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki reached base on a Younel Escobar throwing error. It was the Mets’ only base runner of the game.

Scherzer established a Nationals club record with a career-high 17 strikeouts.
