WASHINGTON — Beginning May 11, Virginia Railway Express riders who take the Fredericksburg line will wait longer for their trains. And the delays will continue for most of the month.
Delays on the Fredericksburg line will be between 30 to 45 minutes in each direction through May 21.
Then things get a little better: From May 21 through 29, the delays will be between 10 and 20 minutes.
It’s due to track work that’s part of building a third track between D.C. and Richmond. CSX Transportation will be doing track and switch upgrades on the Fredericksburg line, south of the Fredericksburg station.
But VRE says the work will create an increase in capacity, speed and the reliability of VRE trains. The third track will help reduce delays, since trains will be able to switch tracks.
