Bi-County Parkway on hold

WASHINGTON — Plans for a Bi-County Parkway linking Prince William and Loudoun Counties are on hold.

The 10-mile path planned for west of Dulles, Virginia between Interstate 66 and U.S. 50 will not be getting federal and environmental reviews needed to move forward.

Virginia transportation leaders will not ask for those reviews, saying the project first has to be evaluated in relationship to new state rules that require road projects to be approved and funded in order of importance.

County leaders who oppose the road think it would only create sprawl. They’re claiming victory.

The head of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors tells Inside NOVA he thinks improvements to increasingly crowded Va. 28 in the same area should be a higher priority for state resources.
