Analyst: Robots are taking middle class jobs

WASHINGTON — Robots have taken over certain jobs, but don’t worry, there’s plenty of work out there for different skill sets, says Bloomberg reporter Victoria Stilwell.

The machines are taking so-called routine jobs — such as putting items on assembly lines, for instance, Stilwell said on WTOP Tuesday.

Jobs that require high math and social skills are mostly available.

There’s no way robots can replicate the work of financial managers, registered nurses and lawyers, Stilwell said. Those careers require personal interaction with clients, things robots aren’t programmed to do just yet.

But while humans are worried about robots taking their jobs, we’re partially to blame for the concern, Stilwell said. More services are automated these days, and the world overall has become more digitized.

Still, nothing beats the human mind.

“As long as humans are able to tap that creativity, there’s still a decent amount of work to be done,” Stilwell said.
