Marine gets 11 years for fatally stabbing another

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Marine who fatally stabbed another Marine during a street altercation has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison.

Twenty-two-year-old Michael Poth of Washington was convicted of manslaughter in the death of 24-year-old Lance Cpl. Philip Bushong, who was based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Poth was sentenced Thursday in Superior Court.

According to government evidence, Poth and Bushong, who did not know each other, got into an argument on April 21, 2012, in southeast Washington near the Marine Barracks.

Authorities say when Bushong pulled back his fist to hit Poth, Poth pulled out a small pocket knife and stabbed Bushong in the chest. Bushong died two days later.
