Marion Barry sent to hospital after crash in DC

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former District of Columbia mayor Marion Barry has been sent to the hospital after he was involved in a car crash.

Barry, a current D.C. councilmember, was taken to the hospital Saturday night after the minor crash on Pennsylvania Avenue in southeast Washington. Police say the accident involved a car driving the wrong way down a one-day street when it collided with another vehicle.

Barry’s spokeswoman LaToya Foster says Barry had been suffering from a hypoglycemic attack with dangerously low blood sugar levels and was disoriented when he collided with another car. The 78-year-old Barry is diabetic and has suffered various health issues in recent years.

Barry’s son Christopher Barry was jailed last week after he was caught driving on a revoked license.
