Man shot in confrontation with police identified

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) — Howard County police have identified the man who was fatally shot by officers after confronting them with a knife in an Ellicott City home.

Sixty-one-year-old Hernan Milton Ossorio was shot Saturday by two officers. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Ossorio called 911 early Saturday and said someone with a knife was going to kill everyone in the house. Authorities say when officers arrived, they deployed a stun gun at Ossorio, but it was ineffective. Police Ossorio continued to confront the officers with the knife, despite repeated orders for him to drop the weapon.

The officers, Officer First Class Russell DiAngelo and Officer Susannah Raff, have been placed on paid administrative leave, standard procedure after a shooting.
