Woman with injured leg rescued in Grand Teton

MOOSE, Wyo. (AP) — Grand Teton National Park rangers rescued a woman who hurt her leg in a remote area of the Teton Range.

The accident happened when 23-year-old Joanna Wang, of Boyds, Maryland, was descending Garnet Canyon around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Park officials say Wang seriously injured her leg after she jumped from a rock.

Wang’s hiking partners called 911 and a helicopter flew three park rangers to the area. Two rangers hiked to Wang, who was then short-hauled beneath the helicopter to Lupine Meadows.

From there, Wang was taken to St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson.

Park officials say they pinpointed the hikers’ location using data from a cell phone call.
