WASHINGTON (AP) — Prosecutors have dismissed charges against a tow truck driver who allegedly chased and fatally struck a man who robbed him.
A spokesman for the U.S. U.S. Attorney’s Office tells The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/1izCXJ5 ) that charges against 35-year-old Corey Dion Stoddard were dropped Tuesday because of insufficient evidence.
Stoddard had originally been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Kevin Lewis Crouch on Dec. 31. Police said at the time that Crouch robbed and assaulted Stoddard on Kenilworth Avenue in northeast. Police said the assailant ran away and Stoddard got into his vehicle and drove after him.
Police said Stoddard hit Crouch, who died at a local hospital.
A judge later reduced the charge against Stoddard to voluntary manslaughter.
