Va. governor seeks successor for retiring IG

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — With some urgency, the McAuliffe administration is seeking a successor to the retiring state inspector general.

Michael F.A. Morehart is retiring from the post that investigates state government. The former special-agent-in-charge at the FBI field office served two years as inspector general.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch ( reports that the inspector general’s office could be asked to investigate a stalled $1.4 billion contract for a toll expressway along U.S. 460. The new road would link Petersburg and Suffolk.

McAuliffe spokesman Brian Coy said it is “premature” to say whether an investigation of the project is warranted, but the governor is committed to find a successor to Morehart.
