Military’s top officer sings to camp kids in annual tradition

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — There was no talk of Afghanistan, Iran or nuclear missiles. But there were plenty of green alligators and long-necked geese.

Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey continued a Memorial Day weekend tradition by singing ‘The Unicorn Song’ and another number for hundreds of kids at the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors’ annual Good Grief Camp. The camp is aimed at helping children who have lost loved ones serving in the military.

The Army general and his wife waved their arms while performing in a Virginia hotel ballroom, backed by the U.S. Army Band Downrange.

Dempsey took questions from the kids — and when one child asked what it’s like being a general, there was a simple answer: “It’s cool.”
