WASHINGTON — Alexandria police are still waiting to talk to Charles Severance, a man they believe could have a connection to the three unsolved murders in the city.
More than a month after his arrest in Wheeling, W.Va., Charles Severance will have his extradition hearing where the court will decide if there is sufficient need to bring him to Virginia.
Alexandria police want to talk with Severance regarding three unsolved murders. Police received a tip that led them to Severance, 53, as part of the investigation into the killings of three prominent residents during the last decade: Nancy Dunning in 2003; Ron Kirby in 2013; and Ruthanne Lodato in 2014.
Ohio County Judge James Mazzone’s clerk says the date of the hearing was set this week, as were the procedural dates for filing.
Severance’s public defender has until April 14 to file a writ of habeus corpus, essentially stating that his client plans to fight the extradition to Loudoun County, Va., where he’s wanted on unrelated gun charges.
The state has a week to file a response and then the hearing will take place, the clerk says.
However, police say Severance is not considered a person of interest in the cases.
Police say that the investigations into the three homicide cases continue and that Severance has not been charged with any crime in Alexandria.
