Arrest made in Bailey’s Crossroads sexual assault

WASHINGTON — Fairfax County police charged an Arlington, Va. man with abduction, sexual battery and obscene display after a sexual assault in the Bailey’s Crossroads area.

Police say Sloan Wilson Rappoport, 44, struck up a conversation in Spanish with a 28-year-old woman shopping at Ross in the 5800 block of Crossroads Center Way around 6 p.m. Jan. 31.

As the woman left the store, police say Rappoport pulled up in a silver Mercedes and offered her a ride. Once in the car, he locked the car, drove to a nearby location and assaulted her. Police say the woman managed to escape.

Rappoport is a D.C. lobbyist. He was listed as an employee of the Downey McGrath Group as of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday but later in the afternoon his bio had been taken down from the firm’s site.

Detectives are still asking anyone with information to call them at 703-703-246- 7800.

Investigators do not believe Rappoport is connected to a separate sexual assault where a woman headed to a bus stop was grabbed and sexually assaulted in front of the Bob’s Furniture Store in the 5800 block of Leesburg Pike. That assault, where the woman managed to flee, occured around 6:30 a.m. Jan. 29.

Police say the suspect was described as 5-foot-8 and thin. He wore a black mask, an orange jacket and a black hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone who knows anything about that assault is asked to call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131 or contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, submit a tip online or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637.
