Reports: Redskins to hire Bengals’ Jay Gruden as head coach

WASHINGTON – Multiple sources are reporting that the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator Jay Gruden is expected to be hired as the next Redskins coach.

The Redskins confirmed Wednesday that Gruden met with general manager Bruce Allen at Redskins Park, making the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator the sixth known candidate to interview as a possible replacement for Mike Shanahan.

Gruden has ties with several people within the Redskins’ organization. He worked under Allen as an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett in the UFL.

Gruden has drawn interest from at least three other teams seeking to fill a head coaching vacancy. He interviewed with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday.
