Metro Says Property Owner To Blame For Leaking Ceiling

Scaffolding at Bethesda Metro escalators to fix leaking roof

Metro on Wednesday announced the private property owner above its Bethesda station is now repairing water leaking issues on to its escalators.

In an advisory, Metro said the scaffolding at the top of its main entrance escalators “will allow crews working for the owner of the property above the station to make necessary repairs, including resolving the issue of water leaking onto the escalators.”

The scaffolding will be in place for several weeks, but Metro said it is not expected to affect station access. The work will happen at night when Metro is closed.

The leaking water was a common occurrence, according to many Bethesda Metro station regulars.

But last week’s big freeze produced big icicles overhead that forced Metro to close one escalator.
