Union Jack’s Up For Sale

Union Jack's of Bethesda

Union Jack’s days as a British-themed pub might be numbered.

As first reported by blogger Robert Dyer, a three-unit sportsbar chain with an identical description to Union Jack’s has been put up for sale by the Restaurant Brokers and Developers, Inc.

The identity of the chain is confidential, but all the details point directly to the restaurant and bar at 4915 St Elmo Ave. It’s also well known the pub chain hasn’t been in the best financial shape. It closed its Arlington location in June.

The sales listing says the chain has three locations — Bethesda, Annapolis and Columbia — as Union Jack’s does. The property flyer also lists one of the locations as a 7,500-square foot restaurant with billiard tables, which matches the Bethesda Union Jack’s.

The restaurants also offer “classic American cuisine with British influence.” In case you’re not convinced, the Craiglsist ad also mentions a recently revamped menu. Union Jack’s recently revamped its menu. The ad says “this is not a franchise, so the buyer can develop his/her own concept.”

The three locations are for sale for $2.75 million and the Bethesda location includes a monthly rent of $21,152.

We haven’t heard back from Union Jack’s reps. We’ll let you know if we do. In June, a rep said there were no plans to close the Bethesda location.
