WASHINGTON – Imagine being miles above traffic.
In the D.C. region, driving something more like the DeLorean in “Back to the Future” would definitely improve rush hour. Now, a Massachusetts company is making the dream of flying cars a reality.
Terrafugia has already built two prototypes and is now asking for investors to help fund its third, named the Transition, WIRED reports.
Instead of collecting a few bucks here and there, Terrafugia is offering investors a note that will convert to a stock price determined by the next large investment round, WIRED reports. The company expects to start selling cars for $279,000 each, four years into production.
The Transition uses a four-cylinder Rotax engine to power the wheels, and the propeller when it flies. In the air, the company says the car can reach 100 mile per hour speeds.

The idea of a flying car has come to life in movies and cartoons for decades including in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and “The Jetsons.”
