Gansler Releases Video Prior To Governor Announcement

Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler put out this five-minute video on Thursday, as he prepares to make his campaign for governor official.

The Democrat and former Montgomery County State’s Attorney is going up against Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Takoma Park Delegate Heather Mizeur for the Democratic nomination.

In the video, former Montgomery County Police officer Mike Mancuso praises Gansler for coming back to Montgomery County instead of pursuing a career at a large law firm. Domestic violence victim advocate Hannah Sassoon praises Gansler for his work on assisting domestic violence victims. Gansler says his work helped set up the county’s Family Justice Center.

State Sen. Rich Madaleno (D-Dist. 18) says Gansler was the first statewide elected official to support same-sex marriage.

“He took it from impossible to inevitable,” Madaleno says.

Finally, Baltimore Delegate and former city councilmember Keiffer Mitchell voices his support, as well as former U.S. Sen. Joseph Tydings.

“Doug never backs down,” Tydings said. “He is a born fighter.”

Gansler, a Bethesda resident, will officially announce his candidacy on Tuesday in Rockville.
