The people behind 100 Montaditos are pushing for an early October opening for the Spanish sandwich chain coming to Bethesda Row.
Steve Walker, who will run the 4922 Elm St. restaurant, said he’s hoping to open in the first week of October. Walker and his team were granted a beer and light wine license by the County’s Liquor Control Board on Thursday morning.
Work at the storefront, former home of Green Papaya, is still ongoing.
The restaurant will serve montaditos, the crunchy Spanish rolls baked to order, filled with ingredients such as Serrano ham, tortilla, chorizo sausage and Iberian cheese. As the name implies, there are 100 varieties of fillings available and the bread is partially baked in Spain before being frozen and delivered to more than 250 locations around the world.
It’s the first U.S. 100 Montaditos location outside of Florida. It was originally scheduled to open in May.
Nearby, ShopHouse Asian Kitchen (4820 Bethesda Ave.) looks like it will take a while longer to open. The Chipotle spin-off’s hearing for a beer, wine and liquor license on Thursday was pushed off to another date.
In Woodmont Triangle, it seems Smashburger’s plan to open Sept. 25 in the 4901 Cordell Ave. building was a bit too ambitious. A spokesperson told blogger Robert Dyer the spot won’t open until December.
Work on the interior of the building, which will also house the Tommy Joe’s spin-off Roof, is far from complete.
