Westbound River Road at Whittier Boulevard/Winston Drive was closed this afternoon when a large tree fell on an ambulance and car traveling on the roadway.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Beth Anne Nesselt said the incident happened at about 12:52 p.m. No one was reportedly injured and there were no patients aboard the ambulance when it was hit by the tree.
By about 1:45 p.m., a Montgomery County Department of Transportation crew had cut the tree into pieces and moved those sections off the road. Traffic on the road was backed up past Goldsboro Road.
