Gas tanker overturns in Bristow

BRISTOW, Va.- Residents of a Bristow community had to shelter in place after a gas tanker overturned, spilling fuel and shutting down Sudley Manor Drive between Linton Hall Road Dunbarton Drive for hours early Friday.

Sudley Manor Drive reopened just before 10 a.m.

The tanker overturned right outside the Braemar Village Plaza shopping center. The driver suffered minor injuries.

Authorities set up a temporary shelter for several hours at Marsteller Middle School for residents of about 50 homes near the shopping center, The affected homes were on Merrimont Trace Circle and Manor Hill Court.

In addition to sheltering in place, residents were told not to turn on their vehicles. Both restrictions have been lifted.
