Va. man arrested after hitting Prince William Co. police officer

WASHINGTON – A Woodbridge man was arrested after hitting a Prince William County police detective with his car.

Kerry Cherone Brown, 34, was arrested after hitting the detective with his car, forcing him onto the hood and windshield on June 21.

The detective had been approaching the car in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven in the 7000 block of Dale Boulevard after witnessing a drug deal between the driver and another person.

As the detective approached, the driver reversed his car but then abruptly stopped and accelerated toward the detective.

After he was hit with the car, the detective was thrown off as the driver made an abrupt right turn.

Responding officers found the unoccupied vehicle.

Further investigation indicated Brown as a suspect. Officers executed a search warrant at his home and found suspected crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana, evidence of drug distribution, a handgun and an undisclosed amount of money.

The detective was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Brown is being held without bond.
