WASHINGTON – A car careened through an outdoor cafe in the District Tuesday evening tossing tables and chairs and sending four people to the hospital.
Police responded to the corner of 11th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW about 6:30 p.m. for the crash in front of Michel Richard’s Central restaurant.
One of those injured was a child. D.C. Fire officials say the child and two of the adults were transported with possibly life-threatening injuries but their conditions were later upgraded. A third adult was also injured and all four were transported to local hospitals.
At least one of the injured was on the patio at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The car remained outside of the restaurant, which continued to serve customers. The investigation and initial response briefly shut down streets in the area.
