WASHINGTON – D.C. police say the man suspected in the carjacking got out of the car on Barnaby Street in SE, but they are not sure if he ever fired at the responding officers.
Commander Robin Hoey says he does not think the injured officer was hit by a bullet, but the cause of the injury is still not clear.

WASHINGTON – The suspect has died from his injuries, police say.

WASHINGTON – A D.C. police officer was grazed in the head during an exchange of gunfire in Southeast Wednesday afternoon.
D.C. police spokesman Officer Araz Alali says the incident happened about 2:20 p.m. when a suspect shot at the officer on the 800 block of Barnaby Street SE, near the D.C./Maryland line.
Police say a carjacking victim alerted the officer who pursued the vehicle, which is when the officer and suspect exchanged gunfire.
Alali says the officer fired back, hitting the suspect.
The officer was taken to the hospital conscious and breathing, while the suspect was taken to the hospital unconscious with life-threatening injuries.
Also, around 1 p.m., an off-duty officer was shot at in the 200 block of 33rd Street NE off of Benning Road. Police believe he may have been trying to intervene in a robbery.
