WASHINGTON – The Final Four tips off Saturday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, but there’s another Final Four this weekend. It’s the championship of college chess being played in Rockville, Md.
The University of Texas at Dallas, Webster University, the University of Illinois and the University of Maryland Baltimore County lock horns competing for the president’s cup — the most prestigious trophy in college chess.
UMBC is one of the toughest competitors in college chess, but the Washington Post reports that Webster University of St. Louis is favored this year.
The games are open to the public and take place at the corporate offices of Booz Allen Hamilton, sponsors of the game. The event is open to the public.
