Defense takes the stand in Leopold trial

WASHINGTON – On Friday afternoon, the defense presented its case in the Leopold trial.

“What if Mr. Leopold were a married man who went home at lunch for a nooner with his wife?” asked Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold’s defense attorney Robert Bonsib, who argued that Leopold might be guilty of poor judgment, but not of criminal acts.

Leopold is accused of misconduct in office stemming from the demands he made of his staff and security detail. However, his defense team says not one act is criminal.

The defense made the arguments in an attempt to have the judge acquit Leopold of the misconduct charges against him. He currently faces charges of misconduct in office for allegedly using his police detail for personal and political purposes.

The trail will resume on Monday.
