Bill advances that would do away with ‘Kings Dominion’ law

WASHINGTON – There could be some good news for local school districts.

A bill that would do away with the so-called “Kings Dominion law” has advanced to the House floor.

It would allow local school districts to open before Labor Day without getting permission from the state education department.

Northern Virginia school districts have complained in the past that the the law prohibiting them from opening before Labor Day puts students at an academic disadvantage.

If the House passes the bill, it would go to the Senate for consideration.
