VRE train hits pedestrian, delays commuter train

WASHINGTON – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Virginia Express Rail train in Prince William County Monday evening.

VRE says the unidentified person was trespassing on the tracks near Cherry Hill Road in eastern Prince William County.

Prince William County police say the pedestrian was killed.

The accident has delayed train No. 311 at Woodbridge between the Rippon and Quantico stations. The 250 passengers on-board No. 311 have moved to No. 313 and are moving again, says VRE.

Police had initially said a second train would not be allowed to travel alongside the train involved in the crash. VRE officials had planned to bring in buses.

No other trains are affected.
