Office face time is important for career success

WASHINGTON – Telecommuting often means kitchen tables, pajamas and freedom from traffic. It’s a perk many area residents enjoy, but is working from home hazardous to careers?

MIT says there is a benefit to showing up, and not just at Christmastime.

Researchers say being seen at the office leads to higher performance evaluations and more frequent promotions, along with overall job health.

Even though people may be logging in at 7 a.m. and logging off at midnight, big decisions are often made face-to-face.

It seems to work on a simple but age-old principal – out of sight, out of mind.
