We started the Christmas season at the The Capital Club’s 24th annual Santa Soirée at The Howard Theatre Saturday night.
The Capitol Club is a private membership nonprofit that supports charities and causes, notably the Trey Lefler Memorial Scholarship Fund at Sewanee The University of the South. We snapped FrogueClark’s Jim Frogue, Ramsbury Real Estate’s Dave Kranich, City Market at O’s Melanie Hallowell and Advanced Medical’s Alexander Annett.

Last night we went to the Washington Business Hall of Fame at the Building Museum to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Junior Achievement in the nation’s capital.

Members of the audience were literally dancing in their seats and singing along to many hit songs, including the Jackson 5′s I Want You Back, with young Michael Jackson played by Leon Outlaw Jr. Many remarked how much he sounded like the original.

We went to the annual Bloody Mary’s party on Thanksgiving morning at the home of Nina Benton and her husband, tennis marketing guru and JTCC chief Ray Benton. We snapped him bookended by super banker Bob Pincus and sports lawyer Roger Kaplan.

And, of course, football! Congrats to local boy Kevin Hogan, who led Stanford to a dramatic last-second victory over Notre Dame on Saturday. He’s from McLean, and went to Gonzaga. A senior, he’ll play USC this Saturday for the Pac-12 championship.
On Black Friday, Scene reporter Travis Holler joined over 1 million Americans committing to #OptOutside instead of battling the masses shopping. The campaign was spearheaded by outdoor retailer REI to encourage Americans to get outside and be active. Saturday morning we went to TEAMsgiving at the Washington & Lee High School track for a post-Thanksgiving workout. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training trains participants to race the Rock N Roll DC Full or Half Marathon or 5K, and the Puerto Rico Full or Half Marathon in March. The ultimate goal is to cure blood cancers. We snapped the govt.’s Erin Architzel, Navy’s Jack McGowan, Army’s and LLS coach Matt Moakler, LLS volunteer Elisa McClelland and Mayer Brown’s Breanne Gilpatrick.
And we loved being outside in beautiful weather on a perfect fall weekend in Rock Creek Park.

The screening followed an earlier event at The White House to recognize its Champions of Change program, created to recognize individuals doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities. Last night we headed to the Kennedy Center Concert Hall for the Choral Arts Society to hear the world premiere of Wadsworth: Battle Flags and Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem. Here, the Choral Arts Chorus and guest baritone Trevor Scheunemann led by conductor Scott Tucker.
The performance had special significance as it was dedicated to Choral Arts beloved conductor, founder and Artistic Director Emeritus Norman Scribner, who passed away in March. Here, members of the Chorus.
Earlier, we went to a pre-gala reception in honor of Norman Scribner at the Forest Hills home of Cynthia Dunbar and Charlie Cerf, whom we snapped bookended by Choral Arts pianist Brandon Straub and soprano Rosa Lamoreaux.
