StearClear takes you and your car home from bars

WASHINGTON – It’s a conundrum people face every weekend, when they’ve had a little too much to drink. How do you get your car in the morning?

If the evening gets out of hand, many people leave their cars behind, rather than driving home intoxicated. But that means an unpleasant trip to pick your car up in the morning, parking tickets or even a tow.

One company, StearClear, thinks it’s found the solution.

They’ll send a two-person team to pick up both you and your car. One person drives you home in your own car, while the other follows behind to pick the driver up afterward.

The idea has been tried before, but StearClear thinks smartphones are the key to making the driver-on-demand business succeed.

The company will have a smartphone app that both customers and drivers can use. The app lets people request drivers, who can efficiently pick customers based on location.

StearClear thinks the app presents a logical alternative to taking a cab. The company tells TechCrunch that rates are $20 per pickup, plus $2.50 per mile. They’re currently testing the business in parts of New Jersey.
