Local airports getting more crowded, expanding

WASHINGTON – If you think the local airports are getting a bit more crowded, you are right.

Reagan National and Dulles International airports handled 42 million passengers in 2011, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says. Almost 19 million people used Reagan, and just over 23 million used Dulles.

This year could bring even more since flights have been added at both airports, including the new Porter Airlines, which will start flying out of Dulles in April.

U.S. Airways is expanding service at Reagan with 16 new destinations. Jet Blue is also adding one more.
