WASHINGTON – The numbers you may be thinking of on the morning after Thanksgiving probably aren’t calories — those are just depressing.
The turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie can really add up. The average American consumes about 4,500 calories and 229 grams of fat on Thanksgiving, according to the Calorie Control Council.
The average marathon runner doesn’t burn off that many.
Here’s even worse news: Those calorie numbers don’t even include breakfast and the leftovers you eat later that day.
So what does it take to burn off that Thanksgiving meal?
WTOP’s Andrew Mollenbeck hopped on a treadmill at his gym to see how long it would take him to burn off that many calories. While running 8 mph, it would take him more than five hours.
GlobalFit estimates that it would make more than 90,000 steps to burn off a full Thanksgiving meal.
