Two more die of injuries after Pr. George’s house fire

LEWISDALE, Md. – Prince George’s County fire officials say two more people have died following a Sunday house fire in Lewisdale.

Officials say Simone Anne Munroe, 36, and Janet Assing-Macklin, 61, died after being treated for injuries suffered in a fire that broke about 3:45 a.m. Sunday in the 2400 block of Griffen Street. The women were carried out of the home by firefighters and had been partially resuscitated, but were in critical condition prior to their deaths.

The women were the mother and aunt of 6-year-old Omari Noel, who also was carried out of the house by firefighters but died later Sunday morning. Officials say one woman safely escaped the home.

Fire investigators say the blaze was accidental and caused by an overloaded power strip in the home’s living room.
