WASHINGTON – A Frederick County woman was killed in a multicar crash that injured two others Monday morning and closed Darnestown Road for hours.
Amy Burdette Riggs, 34, of Adamstown, was killed when her Subaru Forester was hit head-on by a Ford F-250 pickup about 7:30 a.m. on Darnestown Road in the Beallsville area, according to Montgomery County police.
Riggs had been traveling east and the pickup, driven by 19-year-old Kenneth T. Bynaker of Rockville, was traveling west. Police don’t know why Bynaker’s pickup crossed into oncoming traffic.
The truck rolled over several times and hit an eastbound Kia Sorento. Another Subaru Forester, this one from Virginia, was hit by flying debris, police say.
Riggs was taken to a local hospital, where she died, police say.
Bynaker was taken to the hospital with serious injuries however he is expected to survive, according to police.
The driver of the Kia was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and the driver of the second Forester was not injured.
Icy conditions Monday morning contributed to several wrecks in upper Montgomery County, says Pete Piringer, spokesman for the county’s fire and rescue services.
However it was unclear whether ice was a contributing factor to the Darnestown crash. Police continue to investigation and ask that anyone with information about the wreck call 240-773-6620.
