Rain could put a damper on D.C. fireworks show

WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials say they will decide Monday evening whether the fireworks display in D.C. will be postponed due to bad weather.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/29mt4i2 ) that the National Park Service says the fireworks on the National Mall will “only be postponed in case of heavy rain, thunderstorms or high winds.”

Heavy rain is expected in the region on Monday, but forecasters say it’s hard to determine when it will arrive. Even so, July 4th revelers are urged to have a rain plan if they plan to be out doors.

According to Storm Team 4 meteorologist Amelia Draper, showers are expected in the morning and scattered rain showers and storms are possible in the afternoon and evening.

Another round of rain and thunderstorms is possible late Monday night, Draper said.

National Park Service Spokeswoman Nany Murray tells The Washington Post that the Park Service make its decision Monday evening.

The fireworks on the mall are expected to begin at 9:09 p.m. Monday. If the fireworks are postponed, they’ll be rescheduled for Tuesday evening.
