New Dr. Seuss book on shelves, tops Amazon sales

WASHINGTON — A long lost Dr. Seuss book is on shelves Tuesday at local book stores,  and debuting at the top of Amazon’s book sales.

“What Pet Should I Get?” was written by Dr. Seuss — whose real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel — sometime between 1958 and 1962, according to Cathy Goldsmith, associate publisher at Random House Books for Young Readers,” as reported by Publishers Weekly.

“The brother and sister in the book are the same as those in his bestselling Beginner Book ‘One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish’ which was published in 1960,” said Goldsmith.

Geisel died in 1991.

Geisel’s widow and longtime secretary discovered her husband’s work in the Fall 2013. Audrey Geisel had packed up her husbands work in a box shortly after he died, as she was about to begin some home renovations.

The new book, published by Random House, is available for sale at local bookstores, including Politics & Prose and Barnes & Noble, and is listed as the top best seller on Amazon.com.
