Man convicted of killing Chandra Levy to be retried in October

WASHINGTON — The man convicted of murdering federal intern Chandra Levy was back in D.C. Superior Court on Friday.

The retrial of Ingmar Guandique is set for Oct. 11.

The Levy case gained national attention in 2001; she was having an affair with then-Rep. Gary Condit, a married man.

Guandique is being retried. His attorneys argue his conviction was based on lies told by a cellmate.

At today’s status hearing, attorneys for the government and the defense discussed issues of documents being made available for review.

The defense, for example, wants to see notes taken by police detectives who were investigating Levy’s murder as a cold case years after her death.

Judge Richard Morin determined that any police notes the government is reluctant to provide to the defense, he would first examine to review the decision.
