2nd hotel in works for Maryland Live! developer

WASHINGTON — The Cordish Cos., which broke ground on its Maryland Live! hotel next to its Hanover casino Sept. 13, has plans for a second Live!-branded hotel nearby.

Cordish has acquired a Homewood Suites hotel at 7491 New Ridge Drive in Hanover, Maryland, just a few blocks from its Maryland Live! casino at Arundel Mills. It will renovate the hotel and rebrand it as Live! Lofts.

Cordish plans a $3 million renovation to the property and says it will reposition it as a boutique hotel with first-class accommodations. The 11-story hotel currently has 250 rooms. It’s near both Maryland Live! and BWI Marshall Airport.

Cordish says rooms will remain available during the renovations that get underway late this year. The property’s renovation will be done by mid-2017.

Cordish’s Live! Hotel at Arundel Mills is part of a $200 million expansion at the casino property. The 17-story hotel will include 310 rooms, an event center, meeting spaces, new restaurants, a day spa and a 1,500-seat concert venue.

Maryland Live! currently generates more than half of the revenue from Maryland’s five casinos. It will face new competition when MGM’s National Harbor casino and resort opens in December.

Cordish plans to expand its Live! Hotel and Live! Lofts brands nationwide.
