Wawa has 5,000 jobs to fill

WASHINGTON— Convenience store chain Wawa says it will hire more than 5,000 new employees in the next three months, with all of its more than 700 stores across six states adding staff.

While some of those jobs will be coming to the D.C. region, the convenince store chain did not specify the exact number.

Wawa has four stores in Washington’s Maryland suburbs and five in Northern Virginia, with a sixth Wawa location in Manassas set to open this spring.

“At Wawa, we exist to fulfill lives every day and part of this commitment means providing fulfilling job opportunities that can lead to fulfilling careers for the more than 26,000 Wawa associates who are part of our team,” said Dave Filano, manager of talent acquisition at Wawa.

New job openings are both full and part-time positions.

Many of the people who work at Wawa also own a piece of the company.

Wawa’s employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), with more than 10,000 participants, is one of the 10 largest ESOPs in the country.

Wawa is 41 percent owned by employees. Nearly half of them are store-level employees and store managers.
