WTOP’s traffic reporter, Bob Marbourg, has been observing and reporting on traffic for WTOP radio since November 1979.
He first flew as an observer in the Cessna airplane leased by WTOP. He spent about 11,000 hours watching our region grow beyond the Beltway at a time when rush hour delays formed in only one direction and lasted for less than two hours.
Bob started traffic reporting as vacation fill-in for Walt Starling on WASH-FM and was the original anchor and operations manager for Metro Traffic Control when it expanded from Baltimore into Washington, its second Market.
Today Bob reports from his traffic studio in NW D.C. Monday through Friday from 1 -7 p.m. Bob views traffic reporting as an essential public service, upon which thousands of people will make decisions, a serious responsibility. Today his greatest resource is the hundreds of listeners who call on cell phones as they live the traffic and share their information, thus making a difference by being part of the process.
If you see more than he says, call Bob on the WTOP traffic hotline at 202-895-5048 or email him at bmarbourg@wtop.com.
