Alexandria City Public Schools sent out an alert at 11:16 a.m. that said the “lock-in” had been lifted.

It started as police investigated a robbery at a PNC Bank in the 800 block of North Washington Street.

Police say two suspects with a weapon stole cash from the bank. No one was injured.

Police said in a tweet that they had the two suspects in custody.

These five schools were in lock-in mode:

  • George Washington Middle School;
  • Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology;
  • Maury Elementary;
  • Charles Barrett Elementary School;
  • Mount Vernon Community School.

During a lock-in, all doors are locked but classes continue as normal.
