DC Beer Week in Photos

On Sunday, Aug. 11, the Dupont Circle location of Pizzeria Paradiso kicked off DC Beer Week with aplomb during its "Gueuzes and Goses" event, featuring a bevy of sour and/or funk-laden beers, such as Cantillon Gueuze Classic and Bayerischer Bahnhof Leipizger Gose. I can personally attest that both beers were worthy of multiple "explorations." (Courtesy Brian Hussein Stanton)
A beautiful mélange of beers: The Tilquin lambic exhibited tremendous balance between acid and sour with crispy wheat twang, while the Magic Rock/Kissmeyer collaboration effortlessly combined lactic sourness with an underpinning of salt and coriander. (Courtesy Brian Hussein Stanton)
After a round of samples, the mystique of Cantillon's Classic Gueuze necessitated several full pours. (Courtesy Brian Hussein Stanton)
The "Gueuzes and Goses" event wouldn't be complete without a bit of local flair. Exquisite Corpse, a collaborative effort between the likes of DC Brau, Stillwater, Meridian Pint and Pizzeria Paradiso, broke things out in true surrealist fashion. Each brewery or bar chose a different ingredient without knowledge of the other's choice; a bone-dry, rye saison with a bounty of tropical hop flavors was the end result and a tasty one at that. A big part of this week's Beer Week was on pairing food and beer. Here, the combination of fresh mozzarella, red onion, pepperoni and house-made sausage is downright heavenly with the Exquisite Corpse. (Courtesy Brian Hussein Stanton)

Fortunately for my tastebuds, Bourbon Cru thoroughly deserved a full pour … the gem of the entire evening at Smoke and Barrel. (Courtesy Brian Hussein Stanton)
Churchkey is arguably D.C.'s best beer bar, and for good reason. A meticulously curated draft and bottle list where beers are served in their proper glassware and at their proper temperature is always appreciated by this guy. However, when DC Beer Week rolls around, you'll be sure to have absolutely nowhere to stand depending on what time you arrive. On Thursday, Aug. 15, Churchkey featured upwards of 20 drafts from Bell's Brewery, including rarities such as barrel-aged Batch 9000 and barrel-aged Cherry Stout. (Courtesy Brian Hussein Stanton)
Getting to the bar through the huddled mass of fellow beer geeks was a feat onto itself. Therefore, I rewarded myself with something both quenching and hoppy -- the incomparable Bell's Two Hearted on cask -- what a delight that was. (Courtesy Brian Hussein Stanton)
