2 police cars collide when officer runs red light

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a Syracuse city police officer was looking at the computer inside his patrol car when he ran a red light and collided with an unmarked police vehicle.

Police tell The Post-Standard (http://bit.ly/1sQl5wR ) that 35-year-old Officer Robert Harrington was driving a marked car late Tuesday morning when he failed to stop for a red light at an intersection and drove into an unmarked vehicle driven by 51-year-old Detective Edward MacBlane.

Police say Harrington was distracted looking at his computer when the accident occurred.

Officials say Harrington was responding to a suspicious person complaint and didn’t have his vehicle’s siren or emergency lights on.

Neither man was injured. No tickets have been issued.
