More charges for ‘Piggyback Bandit’ in Virginia

WASHINGTON — The man known as the Piggyback Bandit has been charged again in the D.C. area.

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office charged Sherwin Shayegan, 31, with two counts of assault and battery after an incident at a basketball game at Kettle Run High School Monday night.

Shayegan is charged with touching two players in a locker room as well as knowingly obstructing a law enforcement officer.

Shayegan is already in custody in Montgomery County after an arrest Wednesday for assaulting someone at a hockey game in Loudoun County, Virginia. He’s waiting extradition.

In the past, Shayegan was dubbed the “Piggyback Bandit” because of a history of jumping on the backs of high school athletes. Some of the states include Oregon, Washington state and North Dakota.

An Associated Press story from 2012 says Shayegan has a tendency to integrate himself into high school sports teams. After awhile, he would exhibit odd behavior, like shoulder massages, and eventually leap on to students’ backs.
