Zimmermann turns in a gem but Tigers still beat Nats

Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann turned in his best outing of the spring by tossing six scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out one, but the Nats lost to the Tigers 5-1, falling to 10-11-2 in Grapefruit League play.

Washington Nationals cut seven players, roster at 42

With two weeks left before the Washington Nationals leave camp, the team announced it sent outfielder Eury Perez to Syracuse, its Triple-A affiliate team, as well as right-handed pitcher Nathan Karns, catcher Sandy Leon and infielder Anthony Rendon to Double-A Harrisburg.

Strasburg better than results indicate in loss to Braves

For the first five innings it looked like vintage Stephen Strasburg. However, that quickly faded when the pitcher gave up four runs in a six run Atlanta sixth inning. The Braves sent the Nationals to their fifth loss in their last six Grapefruit League games, winning 7-2.
