Coastal Carolina beats South Carolina State 30-3

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — De’Angelo Henderson carried the ball 20 times for 172 yards and two touchdowns to lead Coastal Carolina to a 30-3 victory over South Carolina State in Coastal Carolina’s home opener Saturday.

Henderson’s first score came early in the first quarter to cap a 10-play, 66-yard drive. Coastal Carolina (3-0) forced a fumble later in the period that was recovered for a 29-yard touchdown by defensive end Roderick Holder, giving Coastal Carolina a 16-0 lead. Henderson added a 32-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Alex Ross was 15 of 21 for 141 yards and ran for a score for Coastal Carolina.

The Chanticleers turned the ball over once after committing five turnovers last week in a win against North Carolina A&T.

Jalen Simmons led South Carolina State (1-2) with 100 rushing yards. Adrian Kollock Jr. was 15 of 26 for 227 yards passing and one interception.
